Diversity Resources

The Diocese of Toronto is committed to being a church that reflects our cultural diversity, to fostering understanding, creating mutual respect and building a strong sense of shared community across cultures, races, and ethnic groups. This requires work, but this work is the embodiment of our vision to recognize the value of building communities of hope and compassion as expressed in Ephesians 2:19: “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

The resources cited here provide a deeper understanding of what it means to become an inclusive and intercultural church. The materials assist groups in doing the inner work necessary to develop true intercultural communities. The sources cited focus on power relations, systemic and institutional structures that promote “separateness,” provide tools for analyzing structures and social realities and introduce methods of movement and action toward the gospel commitment to equality that needs to be encouraged to enable a more intercultural church to come into existence.

Members of the Household of God Workshop

The Diocese’s Members of the Household of God Workshop is an interactive and scripturally based workshop that will give you a chance to explore the issues of cultural diversity in the community and to reflect on managing the differences experienced in the congregation.

Bible study on embracing diversity

From the beginning, the Bible reveals God as an inclusive and welcoming God. Through the descendants of Abraham, God would send the Messiah to redeem the world, all people of the earth. Whenever we interact at deeper levels with people from other racial and cultural backgrounds, we must be willing to change. The Embracing Diversity Bible Study challenges you to go through transformation, a renewal of the heart.
