Baker Foundation Grant

Grants from the Baker Foundation are for the building of or additions to existing Sunday Schools. The complete terms of the Foundation are found on the application. Overall funds are limited, and typical grants are in the range of $10,000. Projects that require a Building Permit, or a loan that is not to be retired within one (1) year, require separate Diocesan Council approval under Canon 6.

Applications fall into two categories:

i) New Construction

The application needs to include:

  • a description of the overall project
  • cost of the overall project
  • timing
  • construction cost associated with the Sunday School portion
  • most recent year-end audited Financial Statements
  • copy of parish’s most recent Churchwarden Parochial Return
  • written endorsement from the Area Bishop
  • current size of the Sunday School

Please also note – The application should form a part of the parish’s new construction submission to the Executive Board.

ii) Repairs or Addition to Existing Sunday Schools

The application needs to include:

  • a description of the project
  • type of project (e.g. repair, renovation)
  • reason for the project (e.g. expansion, flood, fire, safety)
  • project cost
  • most recent year-end audited Financial Statements
  • copy of parish’s most recent Churchwardens Parochial Return
  • written endorsement from the Area Bishop
  • current size of the Sunday School

Grant funding falls under the jurisdiction of the Trusts Committee which meets monthly. In general, the Trusts Committee will not fund entire projects, requiring the congregation to take some responsibility for its funding. Once the parish’s complete application package is received, it will take approximately 60 days for decision to be reached. Diocesan staff will advise on the timing of individual applications and any further information required.
